ABOUT US
Philosophy:
Everything we do or recommend is to develop and maintain a happy, healthy, well-adjusted pet. We encourage you to be a partner in your pet's care.
What we do:
We offer a wide range of services including medical, diagnostic, surgical, and preventive health care needs to help your pet live a longer, healthier, happier life.
North Heritage Animal Hospital has been serving the Owen Sound area since 1997. After outgrowing the east side clinic, a brand new animal hospital was built on 10th Street in 2014.
Our hospital remains privately owned and operated.
Our team of dedicated staff is focused on getting to know our patients and their families. This allows us to help make appropriate recommendations for preventative medicine and treatment of illness to best serve each individual patient and the people who love them.
Interested in becoming a client?
Thank you for your interest in becoming a client at North Heritage Animal Hospital. We believe that your four-legged family members deserve the best care possible. This involves a mutually respected relationship between you, as your pet’s caregiver, and our medical team.
To ensure that we are able to continue to meet the needs of all of our patients and clients, we are currently accepting a very limited number of new clients at this time.
To help us to get to know a bit about you and your pet to determine if our practice might be a good fit for this partnership, we ask that new client applicants fill out an application questionnaire.
A short phone interview with a staff member may be requested once your application has been reviewed.
Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered. Please expect 5 to 7 days turnaround time on most applications. If your pet is having an urgent issue that needs sooner attention, please contact us by phone at 519.371.7080 to discuss options.
Food and Medication Refill Requests
Easily fill out one of our online forms (any time of day or night!) to request a refill of your pet's medication or special order food. These forms contain all of the information that we need to quickly and accurately process your request.
Please allow 2 to 3 business days for most food and medications. Some special order items may take as long as 7 days. If you are requesting a special order item, we will contact you shortly to arrange pre-payment.

We have some exciting news!
Registered Veterinary Technician Wellness Appointments
One of our RVTs has undergone additional intensive training and we are pleased to announce that we are now offering RVT Wellness appointments. To qualify, patients need to be between 1 and 8 years of age with no known health conditions and have had an examination with the Veterinarian in the last 18 months.
You may have heard about the ongoing staffing crisis in veterinary medicine. A global shortage of veterinarians has impacted both wait times and the availability of medical care for pets. The Veterinary Act in Ontario was recently updated and one of the major changes has been to move Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) under the same governing body as Veterinarians.
An RVT is a formally trained (2- or 3-year college educated) member of the veterinary healthcare team. RVTs are licensed and professionally insured. To use the title, they must also complete a professionalism and ethics course, have a clean criminal record, pass a national board examination, and stay up to date with mandated continuing education.
One of the areas that RVTs can shine is the provision of routine wellness and vaccine appointments. RVTs are trained in anatomy and physiology and able to perform thorough nose-to-tail physical examinations, administer recommended vaccines, and collect blood samples for routine testing. They are also knowledgeable in training and behaviour, nutrition and weight management, and parasite prevention.
The benefit is that healthy pets can receive the same personalized care with a veterinary healthcare professional while allowing our Veterinarian more availability to care for sick and injured patients when they need it. In human medicine, the closest comparison would be visiting with a nurse practitioner rather than your family doctor.
Our goal in offering this option is to reduce wait times for much needed care while still offering a high level of knowledge and compassion for our patients and their families. If you have any questions or would like to schedule your pet for an RVT Wellness Exam, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Unfortunately, we are not able to extend credit in the form of in-house payment plans. We do accept “Scratchpay” financing - an independent veterinary financing company.
Their application is a soft credit check that does not affect your credit score. Please check out the link below for more information.
